Thousands of youths and elder scouts from East African member states have gathered at the Kaazi camping site for the 24th East African Zonal Scouts Educational Camp, themed “Innovating the Next Step.”
The event, drawing over 2000 participants, has become a focal point for regional scouts dedicated to shaping the next generation of leaders.
The camp’s emphasis on leadership skills, sports development, and cultural engagement underscores the East African Regional Scouts’ commitment to preparing youth for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow.
In an inspiring address, Florence Ati Opobo, a senior educationist, highlighted the significance of this training, especially considering the pressing issues facing the African continent, such as climate change and governance challenges.
The scouts, driven by a vision to address African problems, have vowed to empower the youth to find solutions.
Anek Suzan Ongom, the chairperson of the Uganda National Scouts Council, expressed their determination to nurture future regional leaders, focusing their energy on bridging leadership gaps and creating a positive impact in the face of continental challenges.
Under the theme “Innovating the Next Step,” the camp has become a melting pot of ideas and enthusiasm.
Prof. Badru Kateregga, chief scout, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of innovation in tackling the unique challenges the continent faces.
The scouts recognize the need for creative solutions to climate change, governance issues, and other pressing matters affecting Africa.
As the camp unfolds at the picturesque Kaazi Camping Site, Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya, Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports, Ministry of Education and Sports, affirmed the holistic approach taken to empower the youth.
