Omoro district will receive six mechanised, and six walking tractors from the Chief coordinator of the Operation Wealth Creation, Gen. Salim Saleh, through the Ministry of agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries.
The tractors are expected to boost agriculture in the district and across the Acholi sub-region.
General Salim Saleh was the chief guest at a pass-out ceremony for 550 district leaders who had completed a seven-day ideological training on mindset change at the Northern Uganda Youth Development Centre.
Saleh also directed the immediate formation of Local Economic Committees in Omoro district. The committees are intended to spur development at the grassroots.
The OWC chief castigated the Ministry of Local Government for not functionalizing 17 value-added equipment sites in the district since they were installed 10 years ago.
However, a senior development officer at the Ministry of Local Government, David Tumusiime, blamed the delay on the Ministry of energy.
“We have written to the Ministry of Energy but every time we are told they are working on it.”
The ideological training was meant to help unlock the full potential of the Omoro district.
The passing out ceremony attracted several stakeholders such as the Uganda Investment Authority, Uganda Development Corporation, and local farmers.
The Omoro County Member of Parliament, Andrew Oulanyah Ojok applauded the government’s efforts to rescue the district from the widespread poverty that stands at 67.7 per cent in the Acholi sub-region.
The ideological clinic for the Omoro district leaders is a brainchild of their Woman MP, Catherine Lamwaka.
