Four police officers have been arraigned before a police disciplinary court on charges of discreditable conduct tarnishing the force’s name
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the four, including Phiona Among, Isaac Angula, Shafik Baluku, and Bernard Galenda, all attached to Kabalagala police station, were arrested after robbing Muhammad Olad Abdirahman, a 37-year-old, a Kenyan businessman.
“The facts gathered indicate that on January, 17, 2024, Muhammed went to Royal View Hotel Buziga, for accommodation. The victim had two other people who were allegedly helping then to get the best exchange rate for USD 30,000 which was in their possession. The money was to be used for buying a lorry,”Enanga said.
“The hotel management tipped Among, who alerted her 3 other colleagues. They reached the hotel and in conspiracy with Okello, who was pretending to be a foreign exchange broker and the manager of the hotel, caused for the arrest of the victims.”
He said that at around 4pm, they bundled them into a motorcycle, and drove them through Kabalagala barracks road, upto another hotel garden, where they allegedly robbed the USD 30,000 and set them free.
The suspects later narrated their ordeal to a Kenyan friend, who helped them report their case.
“The four officers were arrested, and a quick search at their homes led to the recovery of some dollars and exhibited. The scenes were fully documented.”
Enanga said the four officers have already been arraigned before the police disciplinary court from which they will be dismissed from the force and later charged over aggravated robbery in courts of law.
He added that efforts are now in place to track down Okello and the manager and have them arrested as they are currently on the run.
