Member of Parliament for Bunya East, Hon. Kubeketerya James, has termed the two national celebrations scheduled to be held in the Busoga region early this year as a rare blessing that the residents should exploit to their benefit.
Drawing from the rich store of his deep Lusoga language, the vocal and development-oriented MP said, “ Abasoga kyebendezanga empasa, empewo esuyire,” translated as the big tree which the Basoga have been looking for an axe to cut has been thrown down by a storm.
Kubeketerya said that the two national events include the Liberation Day which will be held on the 26th of January at Wakitaka grounds in Jinja City and that of Tarehe Sita on the 6th of February at Busesa in Bugweri are but, a great blessing to this region where Busoga stands to benefit and foster development.
The Honorable Member of Parliament brought it to the realization of all residents that the two events will not only generate business and at the same time boost household incomes but also bring leaders closer to share issues with the residents.
He elaborated that since these events will attract many people to the region, the hotels at all levels, the shops, boda-bodas and even a ripe banana seller by the roadside will generate more earnings.
The legislature is positive that the celebration of these national events in the Busoga region will at the same time create a platform for the top political leaders to come to the region and personally listen to the demands of the people and see with their own eyes where there is need for Government intervention.
Most of the residents in the constituent now vow to continue voting for Kubeketerya, who about 20 years ago abandoned teaching at Busoga College Mwiri to join elective politics.
The voters here sing their Lusoga proverb, Gwoelikera Omwaana, omulingiriranga, thus goes, literally meaning; always critically scrutinize the heir or else the estate you leave behind after death will go to waste, residents of Bunya East have reasons to smile because of their choice of Kubeketerya.
“…just like our president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has led Uganda very well, we will continue standing by our MP so long as he wishes to represent us…”,a group of Christians chorused during the festive season as they ushered in the new year at an event in Kigandalo Trading Centre.
Kubeketerya on the other hand, attributes his glaring political success to what he terms as the wise and foresighted leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Sounding biblical, he alludes to Jesus’ teaching as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 7:17-20 and refers to the ruling NRM government as a good tree producing good fruits of socio-economic transformation.
“…we have to consistently rally behind this government for growth and development, and the forthcoming celebrations are testimonies…” the lawmaker stressed.
He reminded the electorate that because of the good and visionary leadership of President Museveni and the vigilant work of parliamentary representation, of the eighty primary schools which were granted aid by the Government from 2003 to date, over fifty of them went to Bunya East.
He went ahead and informed the residents that by 1986, Mayuge had one miserable Secondary school but, as of now, the district boasts of numerous schools with Bunya East alone owning four Secondary schools with the other four on the way coming.
He also told them that due to collaboration and a joint effort by him as the area member of parliament and the president, one of the first rural cancer centre facilities was constructed and fully equipped at Kigandalo Trading Centre in Bunya East constituency.
He highlighted the Interdistrict connecting roads of Kaluba up to Mayirinya, via Nankoma, via Bugiri up to Namutumba which have been constructed by the NRM Government to foster development in the area.
The Honorable member of parliament did not also forget to draw attention to the fact that during his term of representation in parliament, many health centres have been established by the government in the area and those which were there before have been promoted from health centre two to health centre three.
