The woes of the embattled Minister of Karamoja Affairs Maria Goretti Kitutu continue to sour as the Inspector General of Government asks for more time to review the charges against the Minister.
In a session at the Anticorruption Court presided over by Justice Jane Kajuga, the Inspectorate of Government represented by Vincent Kasujja and the Attorney General’s Amusugut Jackie were tasked to file submissions regarding charges before February 1, 2024
However, Kitutu’s legal team, led by Jude Byamukama, accuses the IGG of distortion of rightful court procedures and prays that the Anticorruption Court strikes all the charges against her.
“We object to that charge due to various reasons, including her rights, that have been violated,” Byamukama says. “We have proof from the ODPP that they have deliberately refused to offer our client disclosure about the profiles of people who returned the iron sheets to the OPM. Our client, of course, needs that information to be able to defend herself from the charge of loss of property.”
According to Byamukama, it is the OPM accounting officers that should be prosecuted, not his client.
