Sparked off by the news that two national functions will early this year be held in Busoga, the entire region is awash with praise for the good governance of NRM and word on most lips of residents is that President Museveni is a prudent and foresighted leader.
Ahead of the function there is a numerous display of posters in most small trading centers in the Busoga region welcoming the president to celebrate the 38th Liberation day at Wakitaka in Jinja City. muzeyi wayife tukwenda yino, sigala ku meyini, one of the posters displayed in these trading centers reads in part, translated as, our mze we love you, remain our president.
This however has not fully submerged the open criticism of the still strongly thriving staunch NRM critics in the political corridors of this region who have come out and openly rubbished these celebrations as unnecessary and a waste of the tax payers money.
Such, and the likes of him in this category is the young but pragmatic politician, Dr. Joseph Pancras in Mayuge district who having learned that the National Liberation day celebrations will be held in Jinja whereas Tare sita will be in Busesa district has criticized Government for what he termes as, a waste of the hard earned resources of wanaichi by President Musevenis Government.
Dr. pancras Joseph who is the Mayuge district Chairman for NUP says whereas it cannot be completely denied that NRM has spearheaded some development in some parts of this country, fact is that for the Basoga, there is no genuine cause for them jubilate and celebrate in commemoration of Liberation day and Tare sita here.
It is a glaring mockery to expect the poverty stricken residents of Busoga region to rejoice and celebrate the 38th liberation day and Tare Sita as they continue wallowing in the deep gullies of poverty.
Dr. Pancras who is also eying the District LC.5 seat come the next elections, says, with the poor infrastructure of potholed roads and inadequate health facilities, no one in the Busoga region can happily come out and celebrate such a non tangible and unrealistic liberation.
The youthful doctor whose medical facility in Mayuge town has become the oasis of life and survival to most disadvantaged residents such as the orphans, widows and the poor elderly to whom he renders free treatment scornfully said, “in a situation where people are still dying in their homes due to lack of meaningful and accessible medical services, we cannot talk of having been liberated by NRM,
Dr. Pancras, a professional doctor himself said it is unwise of the NRM leaders to continue wasting resources under the guise of holding such functions, but shamelessly watching women delivering on the floor in Government health facilities during this century.
My advice to President Museveni and his Government would be that they desist from carrying out such useless money squandering functions and instead channel the tax payers money into useful ventures such the provision of meaningful and adequate medical services he said.
