Security operatives have recovered five guns from Karimojong warriors during separate operations and voluntary engagement across the subregion.
According to Maj Isaac Oware, the spokesperson for the UPDF third division, on February 10 in Kaabong District, joint security forces recovered two guns during a night patrol and on-the-spot cordon and search operation in Lomonye Village, Morulem Parish in Kaabong East Subcounty.
As a result of their fruitful efforts, a Sub Machine Gun (SMG) with the number P07743 BC and another numberless SMG, along with 17 live rounds of ammunition, were recovered.
During the same operation, four male adult suspects were arrested in connection with the criminal acts.
The suspects Lotyang Lokarion, Lotyang Lopote, Bakamoe Lopote, and Ayollo Lopote are being held at UPDF 45 Infantry Battalion headquarters in Kaabong for further investigation.
“Seven cows, 15 goats, four sheep, and two donkeys suspected to have been stolen by the suspects were impounded for further management,”said Oware.
Similarly, in pursuit of criminal elements in the general area of Kapsanyang, Losilang Subcounty in Kotido district, one armed warrior was neutralized, and an SMG with the number 16090, along with 16 live rounds of ammunition, was forcefully recovered.
In an effort to utilise the existing Presidential Amnesty window, two Karacuna (Karimojong warriors) voluntarily surrendered two guns to security in Amudat District.
“We commend the security forces and local leadership for their breakthrough in dismantling criminal cells and their collaborative efforts to maintain security and relative peace in the Karamoja Subregion,” he said.
