The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has emphasized the importance of effective leadership and problem-solving in transforming communities.
Todwong said, “Leaders must think differently from the masses, which is why this training is crucial. We are social doctors. You must see opportunities in problems and harness nature to improve conditions.”
Speaking on Thursday, 25th July, to 450 leaders from the Acholi Sub-region undergoing a one-week cadreship training course at Lokole Sub-county headquarters in Agago District, Todwong highlighted the need for evolving problem-solving approaches, commitment to rural transformation, and patriotism.
“Your role is to transform the lives of those you lead and your own. Make friends who won’t lead you into trouble. Change your lifestyle to save money and create wealth. To last in leadership, never tire of listening to community issues. When people seek your help, it shows you are popular. Build strong relationships with communities and be their thought leader,” Todwong said.
He further called for efforts to integrate people into the money economy, encouraging the use of available resources to create household wealth, promote productivity, and embrace education.
Todwong commended the UPDF for restoring peace and stability which has enabled people to engage in production. “I thank the UPDF and all the armed forces for restoring peace in northern Uganda. You suffered a lot in the past regimes but the NRM came to your rescue.”
Hon. Beatrice Akello Okori, the Agago District Woman Member of Parliament and Minister of State for Economic Monitoring discouraged the people from accepting the lies and propaganda of some opposition elements who aim at spreading hate.
Akello advocated for unity, urging the elimination of divisions based on tribe or religion to fight poverty. “We are all one as Ugandans from north to south and from east to west.”
The RDC of Agago District, Mr. Kidega Knock Nabinson, focused on wealth creation and societal transformation. “Our ultimate goal is to eliminate cattle rustling. Acquiring knowledge is one thing; applying it is another. Return to your homes and put your knowledge into action. Preach the wealth creation message starting with your families. Work together to transform our society. Embrace people rather than chase them away. Development requires the collective effort of all Ugandans.”
