MTN Uganda has announced a generous contribution of UGX 10,000,000, along with in-kind support, for the coronation of Lango’s Paramount Chief Elect, Eng Michael Moses Odongo Okune.
The coronation ceremony is scheduled for November 2, marking a significant cultural milestone for the Lango Chiefdom.
The announcement was made during a handover ceremony at the Lango Cultural Centre, where MTN Uganda also launched a dedicated Mobile Money (MoMo) merchant code (705559).
This initiative allows Lango’s subjects and well-wishers to make donations towards the coronation and support the Lango Cultural Institute.
Phillip Odoi, MTN Uganda’s Northern Region Commercial Head, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the Lango Chiefdom, stating, “We are deeply honoured to contribute towards the coronation of His Highness Eng Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune.
This contribution underscores our dedication to the Lango Kingdom and its people. As we work together towards the coronation on 2nd November, we encourage the people of Lango to unite in support of this historic occasion by making their contributions through the MTN MoMo merchant code 705559.”
This collaboration with the Lango Kingdom aligns with MTN Uganda’s corporate philosophy of shared value, which emphasises the importance of cultural institutions in fostering socio-economic development within communities.
The telecom giant has previously supported various cultural institutions across Uganda, including the Bunyoro Kitara, Tooro, Ker Alur, Ker Kwaro (Acholi), and Busoga Kingdoms.
Bosco Ogwang Ebola, the clan head for Omolo Atar Odiakol, expressed gratitude to MTN Uganda for its generous support. He called upon the people of Lango to actively participate in the coronation preparations.
“We are grateful to MTN Uganda for their substantial support towards the coronation of our Paramount Chief Elect,” Ebola said.
“This contribution is a significant boost to the efforts of the Lango Cultural Institution. We encourage all our subjects and well-wishers to join hands and contribute towards this celebration by using the MTN MoMo merchant code 705559.”
